004 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-004 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), catalogued under part number TST004SO. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

The material holds up against steam, strong acids and bases, and oxidizing media. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for near-universal chemical inertness and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals are present.
