014 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Ordered as TST014SO, this is an AS568-014 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 0.489 in (12.42 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.629 in (15.98 mm). The back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

It resists steam, solvents, and strong acids and bases. PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
