This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-112 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D with an inside diameter of 0.487 in (12.37 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.693 in (17.6 mm), catalogued under part number TST112SO. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

The compound resists nearly all industrial chemicals, steam, and strong acids and bases. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) offers excellent dielectric properties and near-universal chemical inertness. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
