The compression packing is cut into rings and stacked in a stuffing box, then compressed by the gland to seal a rotating or reciprocating shaft. The catalog record notes: 10 LB. The compound resists nearly all industrial chemicals, steam, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE Filament Impregnated Packing is specified for excellent dielectric properties and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. It is not the right choice where service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals are present.
