163 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-163 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 5.987 in (152.07 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.193 in (157.3 mm), catalogued under part number TST163SO. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

It resists oxidizing media, strong acids and bases, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) delivers near-universal chemical inertness and non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.

Typical settings include laboratory equipment, semiconductor fabrication, and chemical processing.
