178 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-178 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 9.737 in (247.32 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.943 in (252.55 mm), catalogued under part number TST178SO. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for a very wide continuous service temperature range and near-universal chemical inertness. This material stands up to oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service.
