This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-041 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D measuring an inside diameter of 2.989 in (75.92 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.129 in (79.48 mm), catalogued under part number TST041. It bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for very wide continuous service temperature range and near-universal chemical inertness. It resists strong acids and bases, oxidizing media, and solvents. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature will shorten service life.

Typical settings include food and beverage, pharmaceutical and biotech, and chemical processing.
