Ordered as TST047, this is an AS568-047 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 4.489 in (114.02 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 4.629 in (117.58 mm). The back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified for a very wide continuous service temperature range and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. This material stands up to oxidizing media, strong acids and bases, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature call for a different compound.

Typical settings include pharmaceutical and biotech, laboratory equipment, and aggressive-media pipelines.
