TST049 is an AS568-049 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 4.989 in (126.72 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.129 in (130.28 mm). In service, this back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for a very wide continuous service temperature range and excellent dielectric properties. The material holds up against oxidizing media, steam, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Exposure to service requiring elastic recovery or elemental fluorine at temperature will shorten service life.
