This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-164 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 6.237 in (158.42 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.443 in (163.65 mm), catalogued under part number TST164. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.
The compound resists steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Applications involving elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
Maintenance and OEM teams specify it across laboratory equipment, aggressive-media pipelines, and semiconductor fabrication.
Stocked as TST164 and sold individually. Application requirements vary, so validate compatibility with your process conditions prior to installation. Not finding the exact configuration you need? APG cross-references from prints, samples and competitor part numbers.
