This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-322 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 1.225 in (31.12 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.645 in (41.78 mm), catalogued under part number TST322. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

The material holds up against solvents, steam, and strong acids and bases. PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for near-universal chemical inertness and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in food and beverage, chemical processing, and aggressive-media pipelines.
