This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-371 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 8.475 in (215.27 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 8.895 in (225.93 mm), catalogued under part number TST371. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) offers near-universal chemical inertness and excellent dielectric properties. The compound resists solvents, steam, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.

It sees regular use in aggressive-media pipelines, food and beverage, and laboratory equipment.
