This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-385 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 15.955 in (405.26 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 16.375 in (415.93 mm), catalogued under part number TST385. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

Expect good resistance to solvents, oxidizing media, and strong acids and bases. PTFE (Teflon) delivers excellent dielectric properties and near-universal chemical inertness. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.

It sees regular use in pharmaceutical and biotech, aggressive-media pipelines, and food and beverage.
