The TST386 is an AS568-386 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 16.955 in (430.66 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 17.375 in (441.33 mm). This back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

The compound resists strong acids and bases, solvents, and nearly all industrial chemicals. PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for excellent dielectric properties and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Exposure to molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature will shorten service life.

Typical settings include semiconductor fabrication, aggressive-media pipelines, and food and beverage.
