APG stocks the TST452, an AS568-452 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 11.475 in (291.47 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.025 in (305.44 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

This material stands up to solvents, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is known for excellent dielectric properties and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. It should not be specified for service in elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals.
