APG stocks the TST453, an AS568-453 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 11.975 in (304.17 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 12.525 in (318.14 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.
As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is specified for near-universal chemical inertness and a very wide continuous service temperature range. This material stands up to steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and oxidizing media. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. It is not the right choice where molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery are present.
Typical settings include semiconductor fabrication, laboratory equipment, and chemical processing.
Order part number TST453, sold individually. Nominal inside diameter is listed as 12 inch. Check the compound against your process media, pressure and temperature before committing to a design. If you need a size, durometer or compound that is not listed, APG can cross-reference from a print, a sample or a competitor part number.
