This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-456 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D measuring an inside diameter of 13.475 in (342.27 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 14.025 in (356.24 mm), catalogued under part number TST456. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.
As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for excellent dielectric properties and near-universal chemical inertness. The compound resists oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
You will find this material specified across pharmaceutical and biotech, aggressive-media pipelines, and laboratory equipment.
TST456 ships individually. Check the compound against your process media, pressure and temperature before committing to a design. If you need a size, durometer or compound that is not listed, APG can cross-reference from a print, a sample or a competitor part number.
