This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-461 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D measuring an inside diameter of 15.955 in (405.26 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 16.505 in (419.23 mm), catalogued under part number TST461. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

It resists nearly all industrial chemicals, steam, and solvents. PTFE (Teflon) is valued for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and near-universal chemical inertness. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
