APG stocks the TST462, an AS568-462 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 16.455 in (417.96 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 17.005 in (431.93 mm). A back-up ring allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) offers non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and near-universal chemical inertness. This material stands up to steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in laboratory equipment, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
