Ordered as TST472, this is an AS568-472 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 22.94 in (582.68 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 23.49 in (596.65 mm). The back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

The material holds up against steam, oxidizing media, and strong acids and bases. PTFE (Teflon) is known for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and near-universal chemical inertness. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals.

It sees regular use in laboratory equipment, semiconductor fabrication, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
