This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-473 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 23.94 in (608.08 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 24.49 in (622.05 mm), catalogued under part number TST473. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and excellent dielectric properties. The compound resists steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C).

It sees regular use in food and beverage, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
