223 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST223SO is an AS568-223 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring measuring an inside diameter of 1.609 in (40.87 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.887 in (47.93 mm). A back-up ring allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

Expect good resistance to steam, solvents, and strong acids and bases. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) delivers one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals are present.
