229 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST229SO is an AS568-229 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 2.359 in (59.92 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.637 in (66.98 mm). A back-up ring allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

The material holds up against solvents, nearly all industrial chemicals, and steam. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is known for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Verify compatibility before use with molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery.
