This material stands up to aggressive chemicals, petroleum oils and fuels, and engine and transmission fluids. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is known for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and very low compression set at elevated temperature. Applications involving hot water and steam or low-molecular-weight organic acids call for a different compound.
