Ordered as TST282SO, this is an AS568-282 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 15.955 in (405.26 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 16.233 in (412.32 mm). The back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) offers a very wide continuous service temperature range and excellent dielectric properties. The compound resists steam, solvents, and oxidizing media. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery are present.
