Stainless Steel is specified for dimensional stability under thermal cycling and a hygienic, cleanable surface suited to sanitary process lines. It resists corrosion and oxidation, elevated temperature, and salt water and washdown. It should not be specified for service in galvanic pairing with dissimilar metals or chloride stress cracking in some grades.

Typical settings include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and marine and offshore.
