The material holds up against corrosion in water service, atmospheric exposure, and moderate pressure. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Brass is valued for good corrosion resistance in water and mild chemical service, excellent machinability yielding tight, clean threads. It should not be specified for service in strong acids or ammonia and amine compounds.

It sees regular use in petroleum transfer, plumbing and process piping, and water and irrigation.
