As a material, Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for very low compression set at elevated temperature and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. The material holds up against chlorinated solvents, many acids, and petroleum oils and fuels. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). It should not be specified for service in ketones and esters or amines.

It sees regular use in oil and gas, chemical processing, and automotive fuel systems.
