An o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

EPDM (EPR) is known for very good flexibility at low temperature and good electrical insulating characteristics. The compound resists water and steam, ketones, and brake fluid. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). Applications involving aromatic hydrocarbons or mineral oil-based lubricants call for a different compound.

Typical settings include HVAC and refrigeration, potable water applications, and brake and phosphate ester systems.
