It seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

This material stands up to heat and oxidation, modern refrigerants, and ozone and weathering. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is known for excellent abrasion and tear strength, improved ozone and weathering resistance over standard nitrile. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). It is not the right choice where strong oxidizing acids or chlorinated hydrocarbons are present.
