An o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

This material stands up to sour gas and amine inhibitors, modern refrigerants, and ozone and weathering. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) offers the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability and strong resistance to rapid gas decompression. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). It should not be specified for service in chlorinated hydrocarbons or ketones.

It sees regular use in commercial refrigeration, automotive air conditioning, and engine timing systems.
