An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

The material holds up against modern refrigerants, ozone and weathering, and sour gas and amine inhibitors. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) delivers long service life in refrigerant and oilfield duty, strong resistance to rapid gas decompression. Continuous operating temperature is published at -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). It is not the right choice where chlorinated hydrocarbons or strong oxidizing acids are present.

It sees regular use in heavy-duty powertrain, commercial refrigeration, and automotive air conditioning.
