The o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

This material stands up to petroleum oils and fuels, modern refrigerants, and heat and oxidation. That behavior comes from the compound itself: HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) delivers improved ozone and weathering resistance over standard nitrile, the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability.
