An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

The compound resists sour gas and amine inhibitors, heat and oxidation, and modern refrigerants. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is known for the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability, long service life in refrigerant and oilfield duty. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). Exposure to ketones or chlorinated hydrocarbons will shorten service life.
