It provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

This material stands up to aggressive chemicals, engine and transmission fluids, and many acids. Viton® (FKM) delivers outstanding high-temperature capability and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Applications involving low-molecular-weight organic acids or ketones and esters call for a different compound.
