An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

Viton® (FKM) offers the industry benchmark where nitrile reaches its thermal limit and very low compression set at elevated temperature. The material holds up against chlorinated solvents, aggressive chemicals, and aromatic hydrocarbons. The material carries a published service range of -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C).
