It compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

Aflas (TFE/P) offers exceptional resistance to amine-based additives and proven performance in aggressive downhole environments. It resists hot water, brake fluids and phosphate esters, and strong bases. Published continuous service range is -25°F (-31.7°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). Exposure to low-temperature dynamic service or some chlorinated solvents will shorten service life.
