This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-038 black Viton® (FKM) 90 Shore A with an inside diameter of 2.614 in (66.4 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.754 in (69.95 mm), catalogued under part number VBU90038. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

Viton® (FKM) is specified here for very low compression set at elevated temperature, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. It resists petroleum oils and fuels, aggressive chemicals, and engine and transmission fluids. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where hot water and steam or low-molecular-weight organic acids are present.

Maintenance and OEM teams specify it across semiconductor equipment, chemical processing, and automotive fuel systems.
