This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-049 black Viton® (FKM) 90 Shore A built to an inside diameter of 4.989 in (126.72 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.129 in (130.28 mm), catalogued under part number VBU90049. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

It resists engine and transmission fluids, many acids, and chlorinated solvents. Viton® (FKM) is known for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and outstanding high-temperature capability. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. It is not the right choice where ketones and esters or amines are present.

It sees regular use in aerospace, oil and gas, and automotive fuel systems.
