This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-176 black Viton® (FKM) 90 Shore A measuring an inside diameter of 9.237 in (234.62 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.443 in (239.85 mm), catalogued under part number VBU90176. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

The compound resists chlorinated solvents, aggressive chemicals, and many acids. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for very low compression set at elevated temperature and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments.
