AS568-177 black Viton® (FKM) 90 Shore A Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 9.487 in (240.97 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.693 in (246.2 mm). This back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

APG stocks the VBU90177, an AS568-177 black Viton® (FKM) 90 Shore A Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 9.487 in (240.97 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.693 in (246.2 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) is known for outstanding high-temperature capability and long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments. This material stands up to engine and transmission fluids, chlorinated solvents, and aggressive chemicals. Rated temperature range runs from -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Exposure to low-molecular-weight organic acids or hot water and steam will shorten service life.

Common environments for this compound include chemical processing, aerospace, and automotive fuel systems.
