An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

This material stands up to strong bases, sour gas and hydrogen sulfide, and brake fluids and phosphate esters. Aflas (TFE/P) delivers proven performance in aggressive downhole environments and high-temperature steam capability that most fluoroelastomers cannot match. Continuous operating temperature is published at -25°F (-31.7°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). Exposure to some chlorinated solvents or aromatic hydrocarbons will shorten service life.
