An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

Aflas (TFE/P) is specified here for excellent electrical insulating properties and proven performance in aggressive downhole environments. The material holds up against hot water, brake fluids and phosphate esters, and amines and corrosion inhibitors. The material carries a published service range of -25°F (-31.7°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). It should not be specified for service in low-temperature dynamic service or some chlorinated solvents.

Typical settings include chemical processing, downhole tooling, and power generation.
