An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

Neoprene (Chloroprene) is specified here for dependable general-purpose sealing in exposed installations and inherent flame-retarding characteristics. The compound resists mild acids, ozone and weathering, and refrigerants and ammonia. Rated temperature range runs from -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C) in continuous service.
