An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

As a material, Neoprene (Chloroprene) offers a balanced combination of oil and weather resistance, good resilience across a moderate temperature band. The material holds up against sunlight and salt spray, moderate petroleum oil exposure, and ozone and weathering. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where chlorinated solvents or strong oxidizing acids are present.
