The o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

It resists phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, water and steam, and brake fluid. EPDM (EPR) offers strong performance in outdoor and exposed installations, very good flexibility at low temperature. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 300°F (148.9°C). Applications involving petroleum oils and fuels or aromatic hydrocarbons call for a different compound.
