The material holds up against dilute acids and alkalis, water and steam, and ketones. That behavior comes from the compound itself: EPDM (EPR) is widely chosen for excellent hot water and steam resistance, good electrical insulating characteristics. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). Exposure to petroleum oils and fuels or mineral oil-based lubricants will shorten service life.
