An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

EPDM (EPR) is specified here for strong performance in outdoor and exposed installations, excellent hot water and steam resistance. This material stands up to ozone, UV and weathering, water and steam, and phosphate ester hydraulic fluids. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 300°F (148.9°C). Exposure to petroleum oils and fuels or aromatic hydrocarbons will shorten service life.
