The o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

EPDM (EPR) is specified here for good electrical insulating characteristics, outstanding weather, ozone and sunlight resistance. The compound resists brake fluid, ketones, and phosphate ester hydraulic fluids. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). It should not be specified for service in petroleum oils and fuels or aromatic hydrocarbons.
