An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

EPDM (EPR) is known for excellent hot water and steam resistance, good electrical insulating characteristics. The material holds up against ozone, UV and weathering, brake fluid, and dilute acids and alkalis. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). Applications involving aromatic hydrocarbons or mineral oil-based lubricants call for a different compound.

Common environments for this compound include potable water applications, water and steam systems, and brake and phosphate ester systems.
